Inspired by real-life experiences, first adapted into a movie script, then built on and reimagined as a fantasy mystery mail club.
“You met her back when things went wrong, her smile red, and eyes that shone.
To walk with her was not a crime, but lying down, well, that's not fine.
A single drop of emotionless pain, think it's all over, then starts again.
The sun was shining, you laughed and danced.
This was the day, this was your chance.
Let's prove them wrong, the lies they said.
We can be happy, we can hide as well.
Don't show your emotions, or they will come.
And when they do, it won't be fun.”
- They never go away, do they? Month 1
Liisa van der Made (author and artist) began creating Silent in a hard time in her life. She was lonely, had many undiagnosed illnesses, and was struggling immensely with her relationships. To combat the pain, she started writing down her thoughts and revelations. This slowly turned into a long list of interesting findings.
Later, she developed the notes into a movie script, but because of her declining mental and physical health, she took a much-needed 3-year break to take care of herself and get some perspective. After that, she reimagined and grew her movie script into a fantasy mystery mail club. Each month building a riveting mystery in the dystopian and magical world of Silent, where people's pain isn’t quite as it seems, and anyone, regardless of their appearance or limitations, can be anything they want.
Set to be a movie and novel some day, Silent is evolving and growing every day. The story of Silent follows magical mutant animals and their constant dispute with humans. Set in a war ridden, dystopian world where everything shifted after the first nuclear power plant leeked into the nearby farm and forest turning all it’s inhabitants into fantasy creatures, with most having magical powers or abilities.
